Car Insurance Mitsubishi (Car Insurance). what can be wrong with the car?what can be wrong with the car? First thing, First. The car is a: 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.4L SFI DOHC 4cyl The problem: About a month ago me and my friend were going to go out (not my car BTW its my friends) and we started the car and we heard what im going to describe as a loud, high pitch squeal/scream whenever the steering wheel was moved and the steering wheel got really stiff and hard to turn. when we looked under the hood we noticed power steering fluid leaking from the top of the reservoir. leaking from the cap. i also noticed as the steering wheel was being turned the fat hose connected to the reservoir (this reservoir has two hoses one really fat one that is connected to the pump and a smaller one going down into the axle area) was closing up as if there was something stuck creating a vacuum. but when we would turn the steering wheel to the extreme left or right it would stop leaking, and stop making the squeal and it would work properly. so today he said he drove the car to work and it was fine but when he left work it made the squeal but this time really loud, then it stopped and the steering wheel got super stiff and had to make wide turns and was having trouble steering. the reservoir was full at this point. when we open the reservoir cap and turn the steering wheel we can see the liquid moving up and down about half an inch. the belt connected to the pump is up and running. so what could be wrong with the car? it it the pump or something else? any input is welcomed and appreciated, ty for your time. i would say the pump is going bad...it happen quite frequently Hi You have a hole in the return line. That`s the fat one. Usually the squealing is caused by a slipping belt. It is possible however that you have a pump starting to fail. The belt can slip if its worn or if one or more components in the belt driven system is failing. Some of these could be the belt tensioner pulley or any other pulleys also driven by the same belt. It sounds like the pump, although the problem could have something to do with the hoses. It could also be a problem with the steering linkage, although this doesn't really sound like it's part of the problem. The steering sounds like it is working fairly normally, even when the power steering isn't working--stiffness is a pretty normal characteristic when this happens. Moving from IL to CA - car registration requirements? Hi, i have a 2003 honda civic lx with a ULEV sticker (which says EPA and CARB certified). I also checked under the hood and found a notice saying "This vehicle conforms to US EPA NLEV and CFV and California regulations applicable to gasoline fueled 2003 model year new ULEV passenger cars" I see the word california and feel that the car probably qualifies for CA smog emission requirement. But i would appreciate if someone can confirm? Is there anything i should be worried about? Its a car with 64000 miles - and i could not find a clear statement in CA DMV about moving non-new out-of-state car. Thanks in advance car insurance. Auto parts : Instructional Video Jaguar 1997. Mitsubishi . How to Replace the Water Hoses in a Nissan SentraThe Nissan Sentra has always been a favorite for the budget-minded car owner. It debuted in 1982 and promised great gas mileage and good yearly performance. The 2007 redesign gave a little more room for growing families, but it kept the ease of periodic maintenance, such as water hose replacement. Here is how to replace the water hoses in your 1999 to 2008 Nissan Sentra. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Gates coolant hoses #22536 and #22537 Flathead screwdriver Pliers Jack and jack stands Marking pencil Digital camera Utility knife Coarse sandpaper Container Adjustable radiator hose clamps Coolant WaterRemove Old Hoses Step by Step : 1 Get the Gates radiator hoses needed for your Nissan Sentra at your local auto parts store. The upper hose is #22536 and the lower is #22537. If your auto parts store does not have Gates, other hoses will work as long as they apply to a Nissan Sentra. The preformed shape allows these hoses to fit in a specific area to do their job. 2 Loosen the screws on the adjustable radiator clamps with a flathead screwdriver. Move the clamp down on the hose and out of the way. Let the car down on the jack stands after jacking each side up individually. 3 Mark where the old hose came to on the machinery so you can put the replacement up the same amount and avoid leakage. Take a picture of the original placement if you have a digital camera so you can replicate it. 4 Eliminate the old hose as you peel it away from the vehicle areas where it stuck with a utility knife. Use a piece of coarse sandpaper to clean the area where the hose was stuck to the automobile part. Clean the other connection areas while they are free. 5 Place a container below the radiator to catch the coolant mixture so it does not go into the storm drains and thus the ground water. Pour the mixture back into an empty coolant bottle and dispose of properly. 6 Open the drain plug or remove the bottom radiator hose to drain. Remove the top hose by slipping it off the radiator shroud at one end and the thermostat housing at the other. Discard all the used hoses and clamps. Sand the areas where the old hose met the Nissan Sentra parts to remove pieces of hose and other grit. Install New Hoses Step by Step : 1 Use adjustable clamps with screws for greater protection in holding the new hoses in place. Install the new Nissan Sentra hoses by reversing the steps you went through when removing the old ones. 2 Set the clamps on the top hose and slide toward the middle of the hose. Push the hose securely onto the top opening in the radiator shroud at one end and the thermostat housing (at the top of the water pump) on the other. Tighten each clamp by tightening the screw. 3 Repeat Step 2 for the clamps and connect the hose to the bottom radiator shroud at one end and the bottom of the engine at the other. Adjust the clamps into place and tighten the screw. 4 Reuse the old coolant if it is still clean and finish filling the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water to the cap line. Refill it more as it goes down into the radiator until it stops percolating and making room for more coolant. Start the engine with the radiator cap still open. 5 Start up the Nissan Sentra. The thermostat will get warmer and the fluid will drop as the coolant begins to circulate. From here, you can finish filling up the radiator. Replace the radiator cap and fill up the overflow reservoir to the line marked "full." 6 Check to see that the temperature gauge does not run higher than it should. Be sure that the drain plug is closed and there are no leaks at the hose connections or anywhere else. Tips & Warnings Add lubricant to the inside of the radiator shroud at the connection to make the job easier. If you find tension spring clamps holding the original hoses, use a pair of pliers to squeeze each clamp and move it out of the way. Never work under the hood on any car when it is hot from running. This is particularly true when working with water hoses. ResourcesO'Reilly's Auto Parts has water hoses to fit your Nissan Sentra.
